Even if you don’t plan to compete, this is still worthwhile attending. The tournament starts at 10:00 a.m. If you’re planning to compete, please arrive at 9:30 to warm up.
Coloured belts compete in kata first, then the room is cleared to make way for the black belts. After that, coloured belts compete in sparring. The tournament is usually done by 12:30 p.m.
Sensei Julie and I hope to see you there!
Karate in the Bahamas
09/11/12 11:36
If you’re interested in mixing sand, beaches, karate and camaraderie, you should think about joining your fellow Toronto Wado-Kai karateka in the Bahamas next April.
The event is being held in Freeport, the Bahamas from April 5-12, 2013. The $1,300 price is all-inclusive and will provide an experience second to none.
Sensei Julie and I went in February 2010, and it was a great time!

We worked out every morning on the beach. Each sensei took a turn leading the workout, which gave everyone insight into how others approach teaching.
We spent a number of evenings working out with Freeman Thurston’s club. Freeman has headed up the Bahamas chapter of Toronto Wado-Kai for many years.
It was one of the best weeks of exercise and camaraderie we’ve ever experienced.
If you’re interested, call Sensei Lenore Eng at 416-451-5782 or e-mail her at bahamamas (at) live (dot) com.

Sensei Ron Sheyan to Visit Wednesday, November 21
30/10/12 18:27
On Wednesday, November 21, Sensei Ron Sheyan from Brooklin Wado-Kai will be visiting us. There are even rumours he will be bringing some of his students.
This is certainly a treat for us! Sensei Ron is one of the most respected sensei’s in our organization. He will be leading the class, which will undoubtedly be memorable.
If there’s any chance you can make it, don’t miss it!

Sensei Joe Coming to Oshawa
19/09/12 12:21
I just received an e-mail from Sensei Carlos Garcia, head of Oshawa Wado-Kai Karate (and a wonderful person to boot!)
He tells me that Sensei Joe Fagundes will be coming to the YWCA to conduct a karate class from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm (their regular class hours) on Tuesday, September 25, at the YWCA in Oshawa. Sensei Carlos has extended an invitation to all of us to attend.
I’ve known Sensei Joe for many, many years. We’ve progressed through the ranks together and, until this summer, he ran the west end Wado-Kai karate club. He is an excellent teacher and any class he conducts will be fun and interesting, and a good workout as well.
For a number of reasons, Sensei Joe had to step back from his own club earlier this summer, but it’s great to see that he’s still with us in spirit (and from time to time in person!).
If you’re interested in attending and need directions, please talk to Sensei Julie or me.
